AM research for next generation space propulsion systems

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is developing innovative materials and processes in the field of additive manufacturing (AM) using laser powder bed fusion. A unique range of TRLs is covered, ranging from fundamental materials research to the qualification of AM components for aerospace application

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) - Institute of Materials Research develops innovative materials and processes in the field of additive manufacturing using laser powder bed fusion. The DLR covers a unique TRL-range, ranging from basic materials research at large-scale research facilities to the qualification of AM components on test benches. The lecture gives an insight into DLR research into laser powder bed fusion. Digital tools for the three-dimensional mapping of process monitoring data on the CAD geometry will be presented as well as the AM qualification of injectors for satellite propulsion systems. It will also be shown why component geometry has a decisive influence on the final component properties.
